The Simple Folk
Conceived by two friends during their shared journey through the early years of motherhood, Jamie Morea (who is based in Portugal, amongst their community of talented sewers and knitters) and Abi Brown (who lives in and works from London) wanted to create clothing for children reflective of their own lifestyle and philosophy, products that they found surprisingly difficult to find elsewhere, in the sea of fast-fashion brands.
The idea was first conceived in text exchanges during late night feeds and slowly became a reality over the course of the year that followed. Finally, the most beautiful brand of environmentally friendly clothing, created in a socially conscious way was born and the rest as they say, is history.
There's so much to love about The Simple Folk and, as the name suggests simplicity is high on the agenda. Using only natural and non-toxic organic fabrics and dyes, their clothing is designed to support movement, adventure, and comfortable play. Slow fashion, inspired by nature. Beautifully soft, timeless pieces that are both easy to wear and easy to care for.
The impact the fashion industry is having on both the planet and the people producing the clothing itself is something at the very forefront of our minds when buying and introducing new brands. Transparency is key and The Simple Folk offer complete accountability throughout their entire design, manufacturing and distribution process.
Though small batch clothing made in an ethical and sustainable way comes at a higher cost than traditional fast fashion, it is the only way we can possibility look after the health and well-being of the planet and all that inhabit it.
All of The Simple Folk's organic pieces are GOTS certified, the highest worldwide standard there is. Accreditation covers the entire textile chain—from the sustainable, ethical harvesting of organically grown plants through eco-friendly and socially responsible manufacturing practices.
Their factory in Portugal is GOTS certified, OEKO-TEX® certified, and runs on green energy. Well water is recycled and power is generated by solar panels whilst the artisans employed within those factories respected, protected and treated fairly, every employee is considered to be one of the family. And, as members of the Change for Women Collective they also support four wonderful organisations that are committed to furthering children's education and wellbeing
They are truly a force for change within the industry.
