Petit Nord - A Uniqua Collaboration
New to Junior Edition this season is Petit Nord. We love beautifully crafted footwear in traditional styles and these gorgeous shoes and boots tick ALL the boxes.
Petit Nord first launched back on 1998 with a vision to create pretty, practical and durable footwear for children, crafted from only the very highest quality materials. Their strong Scandinavian roots can be keenly felt in each and every one of their designs - classic in style; muted, natural colours combine with splashes of bright in eye-catching and enduring designs.
Dook - Small Batch Salt Soap
We have recently welcomed Dook Soaps to the Junior Edition family and, if you're a Brighton local, you might have already noticed them in-store.
Dook, which quite literally means 'to dip, plunge or bathe', are a small but perfectly formed company hailing from Edinburgh. They make the most extraordinary salt soap, in small batches, using only the finest organic ingredients and essential oils. Once you've used one believe me, there is no turning back!
Bebe Organic : Beautiful and Unique
We were thrilled to welcome Bebe Organic to Junior Edition this year, such a beautiful brand that fits so perfectly with our ethos.
Bebe Organic was founded back in 2014 by mother of two and MA graduate of London College of Fashion, Birgit Kadak whose desire to create a range of original, organic childrenwear was driven by the struggle to find suitable clothing for her first-born child who had been diagnosed with atopic dermatitis, an extremely sensitive skin condition.
Marsou - Parisian Upcycled and Recycled Fashion
New for this Spring/Summer season is Paris based French brand Marsou. Founded back in 2016 by Laetitia Flandre after 5 years of working for luxury fashion house Chanel, Laetitia combines the beauty of high end fashion with sound environmental credentials. Marsou is clothing that cares for the planet and we are thrilled to add them to our growing portfolio of beautiful, sustainable brands.
Marsou creations are designed, hand-dyed and handmade in Paris using a combination of up-cycled fabric leftovers that are sourced from luxury French fashion houses together with organic certified and eco friendly fabrics free from chemicals that might harm both the body and the Earth.
Beautiful Bachaā
We are delighted to welcome beautiful French brand Bachaā to Junior Edition for the first time this season. Created in Paris in 2019 as an expression of a love for and connection to India, the name Bachaā is the phonetic transcription of the name that parents affectionately give to their children in Hindi (pronounced BaTchaA).
Bachaā create the prettiest clothing using artisanal processes such as block printing and hand embroidered detailing, for this reason no two garments are quite the same, every piece has its own slice of unique!
Fairechild: Whatever the Weather Outerwear
As we excitedly await a TWO DAY HEATWAVE here in Brighton, deep down we all know it'll be wet again before the week is out and April is of course renowned for it's showers. The Easter school holidays are often a bit of a wash-out but if this last year has taught us anything, its how to get outside and make the most of what's around us and, I have to admit we really have been on some lovely outdoors adventures during the pandemic that might otherwise have passed us by.
Fairechild garments are perfect for little adventurers and they make the most incredible outerwear that is both beautifully timeless in design and innovative in construction. These are garments that not only enable play "whatever the weather" but are produced by methods that are kind to both people and planet.
Sustainable Practices
As I think I've said before, 2020 was a real year of reflection for us, Junior Edition celebrated it's 5th birthday (socially distanced and in lockdown naturally) and we were able to look back at our metamorphosis from a tiny online business to one that has grown to include a beautiful bricks and mortar shop in Brighton's vibrant North Laine area and a warehouse distribution centre just along the coast in Newhaven.
With the operational side of things now flowing well, we wanted to start making some real in-roads to our dream of becoming a fully sustainable business and whilst 2021 has already thrown us some all-consuming challenges (Brexit, I'm looking at you) it has made us all the more determined, not only to ride out this latest storm, but to build a better, more sustainable business too.
All Aboard! Mini Rodini on the Trans-Siberian Railway
Mini Rodini are a firm favourite here at Junior Edition - they are one of our longest standing brands and like you, we love their quirky and colourful prints, the quality (their clothing washes and wears SO well) and most importantly of all, that everything is manufactured with care for animals, people and the planet.
Their latest collection is an absolute corker and draws its inspiration from the slow and romantic journey by train across the continent on the Trans-Siberian Railway. Prints and styles represent a number of different stops en route that include Stockholm, Moscow, Ulan Bator, Beijing and Seoul.
Working To Build A Sustainable Future
Wow, what a rollercoaster of a year 2020 turned out to be! It was a bumpy old year but we made it through, in large part thanks to the support of our wonderful customers, thank you.
Amongst all of the chaos it has been a year of reflection for us, as a business. We first came into this five whole years ago now and there's no denying that it has been TOUGH on occasion, juggling family with a business that grew to include a physical store as well as online threw up some of the most enormous challenges. We have worked really hard across the last couple of years to smooth out operational issues. Securing a warehouse and having a proper distribution hub was a game-changer for us and we are lucky enough to have a really strong and committed team who have been nothing short of amazing during this pandemic.
Mini Rodini AW20: Für Elise
Mini Rodini never fail to impress; quirky, colourful prints that work as hard as kids play! It's one of those brands that is fun to buy and even more exciting to launch as little is revealed by way of 'sneak peaks' beyond the name of the collection. We get such a buzz launching the product after weeks of speculation on social media and there are always a few absolute gems in there that get folks super excited, and this season was no exception!
Autumn/Winter 2020 is an absolute cracker of a collection, with 3 chapters released across the months of July, August and September. Für Elise is inspired by classical music and art and there are so many fabulous new prints from Mozart pandas and cat choirs to notes and violas.
