Brooklyn based Soor Ploom are back with the most beautiful collection for the AW24 season. The first drop, Wovens and Socks, consists of over 30 pieces crafted from the finest materials, in the most beautiful colour palette and prints. From denim jeans and pinafores, to pretty printed skirts and blouses and reversible quilted gilets in organic cotton (plus a whole lot more besides).
Soor Ploom is one of our very favourite brands, they are all about cultivating an appreciation of quality over quantity, inspiring us to live in a world where less is more and introducing our children to the concept of slow fashion, a more sustainable choice that is kinder to both people and planet.
They pride themselves on partnering with manufacturers that are both ethical and sustainable in their practices and the Wovens collection, which launches here at Junior Edition at 3pm BST on Friday 6th September, has been produced in Portugal with a very specialized manufacturer.
We were delighted to learn of a new initiative from Soor Ploom for the AW24 season whereby, in collaboration with their Portuguese partner, 3 new processes are being introduced for selected products in the Wovens collection as part of their sustainability journey - Mineral Dye, BioTint and Ozone Wash.
Mineral Dye takes colour from stones, which are harvested from quarries, crushed and processed into a coloured powder - this process has been utilised in the production of the Clementine Dress, Tippi Pinafore and Elvira Gilet in Pedra.
BioTint, which takes its colour from organic waste in the form of roots, leaves and seed extracts has been used to create the Louisa Blouse and Elvira Gilet in Caffe and the Luna Tunic in Berry Stitch Print.
Discarded organic waste, such as onion skins and coffee grinds are collected from local producers and then processed to create beautiful, rich colours. Any bi-products are then composted by the manufacturer and returned to the land as fertiliser.
Additionally, as an alternative to the destructive processing involved in conventional denim washing, Ozone Wash is a technique that is used to achieve a bleached effect in denim without actually using bleach or other harsh chemicals and was implemented during the manufacture of all those gorgeous denim pieces such as the Minnie and Tippi Pinafores, the Filipa Skirt and the Frannie Jeans . The process uses less water, less energy and is much safer for the factory workers involved in production too.
Creating garments to be loved by more than one owner sits at the very heart of Soor Ploom. I'm sure you'll agree that the pieces you find in this collection are ones you'll enjoy as much on a younger sibling or friend when they are eventually passed down as you did the first time round.
Online from 3pm BST on Friday 6th September.
