Famous for their wooden trains and classic children's toys, Brio was founded in Osby, Sweden in 1884 by basket maker Ivar Bengtsson. One of BRIO's most widely known early wooden toys was the Goinge wooden horse, the best‐selling toy in Sweden in the first half of the 20th century. When Ivar's three sons took over the running of business they gave the name BRIO, an acronym for BRöderna (“the brothers”) Ivarsson (in) Osby. One of the first Brio toys were the racing car and the mass produced wooden dog. Brio started building wooden trains in 1957 and introducted the now well used 'peg and hole' train track connection system using Beech wood.. Brio toys are built with the finest quality FCS certified materials and keep the traditional craftmenship from when the company was originally founded.
